How to use this grid

Two-point perspective is the workhorse. Anything with corners, seen from an angle with the camera level, is two-point: a building on a street corner, a box on a table, a car three-quarters on.

Drag sideways to rotate. At 45° both vanishing points are the same distance from the centre; at smaller angles one point comes in close and the other races off the page. Drag up or down to move the horizon: it is your eye level, and every horizontal surface at that height flattens into a line.

Reading the grid

Red lines converge on VP1, green lines on VP2. Both points sit on the dashed horizon. The ochre verticals stay vertical, which is the defining feature of two-point perspective. The reference cube is one metre on each side, standing on the ground 6.5 m away, so you can judge the scale of what you draw.

Choosing a lens

Wide lenses (20–28 mm) put both vanishing points near the frame and give a dramatic, close-up feel; anything near the edges stretches. Normal lenses (35–50 mm) look like what your eye expects. Long lenses (85 mm+) push the points far outside the frame and flatten the scene, which is what product illustration and technical drawing usually want.

Getting the grid into your app

Procreate — Copy to clipboard, then Actions → Add → Paste; set the layer to 30–40% opacity and lock it.

Clip Studio Paint — Download PNG, File → Import → Image. Or set up Clip Studio's own Perspective Ruler with the same horizon.

Photoshop / Affinity / Krita / paper — Download PNG (4× for print) or SVG for editable vector lines.

Questions

Why can't I tilt the camera in 2-point?

Because tilting creates a third vanishing point. Two-point perspective keeps verticals parallel, which means the camera is level. Use the 3-point grid if you want to look up or down.

Where should the horizon be?

At the viewer's eye level. Standing adult: about 1.6 m above the ground. Low horizon makes objects loom; high horizon looks down on them like a map.

How do I get the vanishing points further apart?

Use a longer lens (higher mm). A short lens crowds the points and exaggerates distortion near the frame edges.

Can I move one vanishing point without the other?

Not in a correct 2-point grid: both points are set by the rotation and the lens. Rotate so one point sits where you want, then adjust the lens to place the other.
