What the generator draws

A room is a box you are standing inside, and its perspective is the perspective of that box: the floor recedes to the horizon, the ceiling does the same from above, and the verticals (wall corners, door frames, table legs) stay vertical as long as the camera is level. The generator draws all three from one camera. The floor and ceiling grids are in metres, the ceiling sits at the height you set, and the horizon line is at the camera height, which is why a seated view (1.2 m) puts the horizon at the height of a table and a standing view (1.5–1.6 m) puts it at the height of a door handle.

Furniture goes in as boxes with real dimensions. Because the boxes and the grid share the same camera, a 2 m bed at 6 m looks like a 2 m bed at 6 m, and a 1.7 m figure standing next to it is the right size without measuring anything. The scale figure is there to keep you honest; delete it when the drawing is set.

Straight on, or from a corner

The one-point view looks down the room. Every line that runs away from you (the joins of wall and floor, the top of the wardrobe, the edge of the desk) goes to the single vanishing point on the horizon, and every line across the room stays horizontal. It is the simplest interior to draw and the one most illustration and animation backgrounds use.

Switch the camera to level (two-point) and rotate, and you are looking into a corner. The two walls now recede to two vanishing points, one each side, usually outside the picture, and the furniture turns with the room. This is the view of most interior sketches and estate-agent photographs, and the one that is hard to construct by hand because the vanishing points are so far away. The generator does not care where they are.

Lens and height

An interior is a wide-angle subject: there is a wall behind the camera, so you cannot step back. 24 mm (about 75°) is the standard whole-room lens; 35 mm shows a wall or a corner at a natural scale; 16–20 mm shows a small room entirely but stretches whatever is near the edges. Camera height decides the mood as much as the lens: 1.5 m is a person standing in the doorway, 1.2 m is someone sitting, 0.6 m is a child or a cat, and 2.2 m is a security camera. Drag the horizon or the slider and watch the ceiling grow or shrink accordingly.

Getting it into your app

Export a transparent PNG at 2× and put it on a layer in Procreate, Clip Studio, Krita or Photoshop at 30–40% opacity; the SVG export gives editable lines in Illustrator or Affinity. The share link records the whole scene, lens included, so a background you set up once can be reopened and re-exported at another size. What is a room perspective generator?

A tool that draws the perspective of an interior for you: the floor grid, the ceiling at a real height, the vertical edges, and boxes for furniture at real sizes, all computed from one camera (lens, height, rotation). You set the room in metres and get a correct grid to draw on rather than plotting vanishing points by hand.

One-point or two-point for a room?

One-point when you look straight down the room at the back wall: the side walls, floor and ceiling all converge to one point on the horizon, which is the classic interior view. Two-point when you look into a corner: rotate the camera, and the two walls recede to two points outside the picture. The camera switch above the grid changes between them and keeps the furniture where it is.

What ceiling height should I use?

Homes are usually 2.4–2.7 m; offices and shops about 3 m; halls, lofts and churches anything above. The ceiling grid moves with the slider, so the distance between the floor lines and the ceiling lines on screen tells you how tall the room reads.

Which lens makes a room look right?

Interiors are photographed wide because you cannot step back: 24 mm (about 75°) shows a whole bedroom from the doorway, 16–20 mm shows even more but stretches the corners, 35 mm shows a corner or a wall the way the eye sees it. Set the lens for the drawing you want; the grid stays correct for any of them.

How do I put a door or a window in?

As a thin box: a door is 0.9 m wide, 2 m tall and 0.05 m deep, standing on the floor against the wall; a window is a box raised off the floor with its elevation set (about 0.9 m up, 1.2 m tall). Place them at the same distance as the wall they sit in.

Can I export the room to Procreate, Photoshop or Clip Studio?

Yes: transparent PNG at 1×, 2× or 4× for any raster app, SVG for Illustrator, Affinity or Inkscape, or copy to the clipboard and paste. Put the export on a layer at low opacity and draw the room on top; the share link keeps the whole scene so you can come back and change the lens.
