Which perspective template to print

Every template here is a real camera view, not a diagram: a lens in millimetres, a tilt, a horizon, one-metre squares on the ground. That is why the 24 mm two-point grid feels like a wide-angle street photograph and the 45° 50 mm grid feels calm. Pick by the picture you want, not by the number of points.

Interiors, corridors, roads seen straight on — the 1-point perspective grid template, or the wide-angle version when the room should feel long. Buildings on a corner, furniture, vehicles — the 2-point perspective grid template. Looking up at towers or down into streets — the 3-point grids, looking up and looking down. Comics, wide interiors, dream sequences — the fisheye and 6-point 360° curvilinear templates. Crowds and scale — the grid with scale figures, which has 1.75 m people at three distances and a door already in place.

Printing and using the sheet

Choose the paper size, orientation, margin and resolution on the template page and download the PDF; it is generated on your device at that size. Put tracing paper or thin cartridge over the sheet, or tape it to a light box. The grey and light-grey ink options print faintly enough to draw straight over. For a digital workflow download the PNG instead, import it into Procreate, Clip Studio, Photoshop or Krita as a layer at 30–40% opacity, and draw on a layer above.

Which perspective template should I print?

For a room or a straight road, the 1-point grid. For a building corner or a box on a table, the 2-point grid (the 45° version if the object is square-on to you). For looking up at a tower or down into a street, the 3-point grids. For fisheye or 360° drawings, the curvilinear templates.

What paper sizes and resolutions are available?

A4, A3, A5, US Letter and Tabloid, portrait or landscape, at 150, 300 or 600 DPI. The PDF is generated on your device at the size you choose, so a 600 DPI A3 sheet prints sharp.

Can I use these perspective grid templates in Procreate or Photoshop?

Yes. Download the PNG instead of the PDF, import it as a layer, lower its opacity and draw on a layer above. For a grid at your own angle and lens, use the interactive tools and export a transparent PNG.

Are the templates free for classroom use?

Yes, free for personal, classroom and commercial use. Print as many as you need.
